The maraca vases were designed during my time experimenting with glasswork. I had the idea of making a longer shape vase. I used a blowpipe to make the long, slim shape of the vase. The design benefits from the optical property of glass, together with detailed hand made cuts. I would like to show customers the beauty of glass in different colours. I am very interested in in the opaqueness of glass. I do not like the gloss of glass very much because I think it detracts from what the glass is doing. If this is not followed, the glass can turn into kitsch. When I developed the basic shape I designed its decorative style with the help and advice of high quality and experienced glassmakers. I focused on chosing decorations which are flexible and can be easily modified. An optical decorative style is heavily used. The decoration can simply be two or more lines. In this case, the ornamental details look very clean and simple – just as I intended.
